Life has a way of throwing new opportunities at you when you least expect them. For me, it started when my kids went off to school. Suddenly, I had more time to think about what I wanted for my own future, and I came to a big realisation that I wanted a career that would bring me satisfaction, joy, and the chance to learn constantly. I craved something challenging, a profession that wouldn’t grow stale, always offering new discoveries.
At first, I wasn’t sure what path to take, but one thing was clear. I needed a change. That’s when I stumbled across software development, and the idea hooked me. It seemed like a career where I could keep growing and learning, so I decided to dive in.
I signed up for a software development course, and from day one, I knew I’d found the right fit. Coding felt like the perfect mix of logic, creativity, and kind of puzzle-solving. It wasn’t just a job; it was a skill that kept evolving, ensuring that I’d never stop learning or improving.
One thing that motivated me along the way was hearing about others who made the jump into tech from non-traditional backgrounds. Did you know actress Bridgit Mendler, from Good Luck Charlie, also made a shift into tech? She studied computer science and even got involved in AI research. Her story was a reminder that it’s never too late to switch careers and chase a new passion, no matter where you begin.
After completing the course, I was lucky enough to land a job as a software developer. Now, two years in, I can honestly say it was the best decision I’ve ever made. Each day brings new challenges, and seeing a project come to life from just a bit of code is incredibly satisfying. It’s not just work, t’s a passion that keeps pushing me to grow and learn.
So, to anyone feeling stuck in their career or unsure about the next step, remember—it’s okay to pivot and chase something that excites you. It’s never too late to start fresh, find something you love, and grow in ways you never thought possible.
