Consumer apps are vital tools for business growth, and in a highly competitive app market, the importance of technical performance cannot be overstated. However, the success of an app goes beyond increasing downloads and conversions - it's equally important to build trust and provide customers with a luxurious, seamless experience. This requires a deep understanding of user needs and a commitment to creative innovation.
While the App Store holds over 2 million apps, the key word missing from this statistic is "unique." Instead, the market is full of countless clone apps, all mimicking the chart-toppers. So how can you ensure that your app stands out and offers genuine value?
With every download, our devices become cluttered with mediocre products, draining our batteries and cluttering our storage. This raises the question: what truly defines an app's value, and how do you differentiate yourself from the competition?
Here are some strategies to enhance your app's value:
Your app should address a problem in users' lives, giving them a reason to choose your product over others. Whether it's facilitating social connections or aiding in transactions, your app should offer a solution tailored to your users' specific needs.
Choosing between native and web-based apps will impact your app's performance and user experience. Consider the unique needs and preferences of your target audience when selecting the appropriate type of app for your business. Native apps offer better integration with device features and faster performance, while web-based apps provide greater accessibility across devices and platforms. Carefully evaluate all factors to ensure your app meets the expectations of your users.
Beyond functionality, focus on delivering your app in a way that distinguishes it from the competition. Consider factors like storage space and battery efficiency, as these often influence users' decisions to delete apps. Resist the temptation to chase trends blindly; instead, prioritise creativity and innovation. By staying true to your brand's unique identity and values, you can create an app that resonates with your audience and stands out.
Innovation is key to standing out in a crowded market. Rather than relying solely on mass data trends, seek inspiration from industry leaders who offer fresh perspectives. Take calculated risks and develop unique features and solutions that resonate with your audience.
Data serves as a powerful tool in app development, offering insights that drive improvements and inform decision-making. However, it's essential to use relevant data purposefully, aligning it with your app's objectives and goals. By leveraging data effectively, you can refine your app's functionality and user experience, ensuring it delivers genuine value to your audience.
AI brings numerous benefits to design, but the human touch still always needs to be there. Tap into your creative intuition and emotional sensibility to build real connections with your audience. Stay true to your brand’s unique identity and values to build trust and loyalty among your users, making your app an indispensable part of their lives.
Regularly maintain and update your app to address bugs, improve performance, and introduce new features, ensuring its longevity and relevance in the market.
Building an app requires more than just technical expertise; it demands a deep understanding of your audience and a commitment to innovation. By embracing creativity, leveraging data effectively, and staying true to your brand's identity, you can build an app that resonates with users and offers real value.

The Pecometer team has reviewed the websites of our favourite restaurants around Stockport and Manchester - from Rudy's to San Carlo. This started when we were searching for a venue for our spring party. With a database of over 50 restaurants, we aimed to find a place that catered to everyone's preferences and dietary needs. To our surprise, many of these websites were outdated, with some menus not having been updated in over four years. We've audited these web pages just as thoroughly as we did the menus, assessing everything from user journey, content & branding, email pop-ups, design, and overall memorability.
